Dr. Brian J. Habas is an endodontist in St. Charles, Illinois who maintains a small private practice. He is a graduate of the Southern Illinois School of Dental Medicine and practiced general dentistry for six years before furthering his education at St. Louis University where he received his M.S. in Endodontics in 2009. He worked as an associate for two years before opening his current practice in 2011. His journey toward Endodontics began with an introduction to the dental operating microscope and continued with the incorporation of Cone Beam Computed Tomography. More recently he has introduced Gentle Wave by Sonendo into his practice and for the past four years has continued the pursuit of conservative treatment of endodontically treated teeth. He is a founding member of the International Academy of Endodontics and has spoken on behalf of Coltene and Sonendo.
In this course, a review of diagnosis, anesthesia, access, irrigation, and obturation will be covered in detail. Current thinking and methodology will be discussed in a manner that promotes a challenge to legacy concepts. As technology becomes more advanced, the endodontic specialty has changed dramatically with the introduction of the dental operating microscope, cone beam computed tomography, and enhanced irrigation systems. These advances have allowed for progress that will minimize the need for instrumentation and possibly change the way obturation is performed.
The course will also cover a shift in thinking from an endodontist’s perspective about how to evaluate teeth from a restorative diagnosis first, including marginal elevation techniques, post placement, and access design to maximize dentin conservation in vital areas. Attendees will understand how a critical evaluation of outcomes sparked a conservative endodontic movement.
After participating in this lecture, attendees will have a better understanding of:
• technical advances in Endodontics that help save the natural dentition
• have a greater knowledge of how to perform competent endodontic treatments in your office
• the basic principles of endodontics
• review of anesthetic techniques
• review of access design
• discussion of post placement
• introduction to GentleWave concepts and mechanism of action with a hands-on opportunity
7 hours of lecture credit may be used towards FAGD, MAGD or re-licensure for dentists and hygienists.
