The Illinois Academy of General Dentistry and the Academy of Dentistry International (ADI) held the 2016 DMD Advanced Standing Case Presentation Competition at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry. The College of Dentistry offers a program of study for dentists who were trained outside the United States of America and Canada who wish to practice dentistry within the United States. Upon the successful completion of the program the participant is awarded a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree. The students presented a patient case and were judged on the quality of the presentation including the comprehensive exam, diagnosis, photography, models, treatment plan, outcomes, and their ability to answer questions. The DMD AS-2 student presenters were Ali Al Mustafa, Haider Aljewari, Juveria Ali Hussain, Katrina Lo, Shilpa Narayanaswamy and Samer Odeh. The volunteer judges for this event were: Drs., Drs. Cheryl Mora, Theresa Lao, Dan Beer, Spencer Bloom, Andrew Brower, Ann Marcott, Sue Mayer, Jose Rodriquez, Ryan Vahdani, Michael Voegli, Sy Wachtenheim, Josif Yabir, and Chris Zwiercan, volunteered to be “judges” for the event. Dr. Christopher Zwiercan, Assistant Clinical professor at UIC COD participated as a judge and assisted the IL AGD with choosing the students for the competition. Drs. Lao, Brower, Vahdani and Marcott are faculty at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-IL. The students presented a patient case and were judged on the quality of the presentation including the comprehensive exam, diagnosis, photography, models, treatment plan, outcomes, and their ability to answer questions. All the students had excellent presentations which made the judging very difficult. After the presentations, the students and volunteers went to dinner at Juts@Pompeii and the scholarship prizes were awarded. The third place prize of $100 was given by ADI to Haider Aljewari. The second place prize of $200 also awarded by ADI was awarded to Ali Al Mustafa. The first place prize of $300 was given by the IL AGD and was presented to Juveria Ali Hussain.
