The Chicago AGD Presented:
Comprehensive Review of Periodontics and Implantology
On Friday, March 1st, 2024, at Maggiano’s restaurant in Oakbrook, IL, the Chicago
component of the Academy of General Dentistry invited Dr. Nikisha Johdan, DDS, a diplomate
of the American Board of Periodontology and a practicing periodontist in Skokie, IL to lecture
on a comprehensive review of periodontics and implantology to an audience of almost 70 people
and of those, more than 50 were in-person attendees. Dr. Johdan reviewed the most up-to-date
classifications of periodontal and per-iimplant diseases. She shared her thought processes and
protocols for treatment planning surgical periodontal interventions for the treatment of
periodontitis as well as for implant placements. Her effective visuals and good pacing throughout
the entire presentation kept her audience engaged. Dr. Jodhan was open to answering questions
throughout the day as well, and our attendees asked some thoughtful questions. In addition, she
was intentional with her audience of general dentists. In her case studies, she highlighted the
importance of a collaborative approach between the restorative dentist and the periodontist.
Connecting periodontics with general dentistry, Dr. Jodhan believed that optimal periodontal
health builds a strong foundation for restorative care. It was a wonderful opportunity to listen to
such a knowledgeable and passionate speaker at our 3rd seminar session of the season.
