On Thursday, September 15, the Academy of General Dentistry and the new Forensics Odontology Club at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-IL welcomed Dr. Howard Cooper of Gurnee, Illinois to speak on Forensic Odontology. Dr. Cooper shared his personal experiences from his active involvement in the Disaster Mortuary Operation Response Team (DMORT) and Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team Weapons of Mass Destruction (DMORT WMD). Specifically, he shared his experiences from working at Ground Zero after September 11, 2001 and his tasks for victim recovery, decontamination and identification in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Cooper opened all of the attendees’ eyes to how imperative dental records are and how clinical documentation can help in identifying human remains that cannot be identified using face recognition, fingerprints or by other means.
This presentation counted for 2 CE credits for any AGD member who attended. Dental students may earn up to a maximum of 50 hours of CE credit towards achieving the AGD Fellowship Award (FAGD) after graduation.
