Dr. Jun Lim received his DDS from Columbia University in 1991. He received his specialist certificate in Perio, and MS degree from Ohio State University in 1994. Since that time he has maintained a private practice limited to periodontics and implantology in Chicago. He taught at University of Illinois (Chicago) from 2007-2017, and at Midwestern University in 2017-2018. He has lectured nationally on periodontology, implantology and pharmacology.
The field of periodontics is evolving. Treatment options are expanding, but so many choices invite confusion. Discussion of advantages and disadvantages of various methods will provide you with the necessary information to treat your patients with confidence. With the popularity of dental implants, we are seeing a significant increase in demand of treatment of peri-implantitis. Understanding risk factors
and early detection are paramount in successful treatment.
Here are the hands-on procedures we will practice during the course: flap surgery, osseous surgery, crown lengthening, coronal reposition flap, connective tissue grafting and dermis tissue grafting.
The participant will design then execute incisions and elevate full thickness flaps to access the alveolar bone and root surfaces. We will begin with the envelop flap and make modifications to increase visibility and access. The crestal bone will be recontoured to allow apical positioning of the flap for both osseous reduction and crown lengthening to maintain gingival biologic width.
Mucogingival defects will be addressed by coronally repositioning gingival flaps for root coverage. Additionally, lack of keratinized tissue or thin gingival biotype will be corrected by placing connective tissue grafts and dermis tissue grafts.
• Gain the tools to identify pathological states of periodontitis and peri-implantitis
• Understand the underlying issues responsible for these conditions
• Gain an understanding of treatment techniques
• Strategies will be discussed to facilitate treatment to reach those treatment objectives.
These hands-on programs were designed originally for AGD Fellows striving to be AGD Masters. We have discovered that these programs can be valuable to all dentists from new graduates to the most experienced clinicians.
