As most patients want to save their teeth, effective practitioners must possess a strong foundation in both basic periodontal principles and evidence based periodontal management. In the context of the updated periodontal diagnosis and classification system, this program will discuss clinical findings, radiographic indications, and medical history to determine a realistic prognosis with treatment. Nonsurgical and surgical periodontal management, appropriate case selection and long-term maintenance will be reviewed. The program will provide in depth descriptions of non-surgical and surgical techniques, stress the rationale for providing therapy, and review wound healing/post-operative instructions.
Therapeutic topics covered will include SRP techniques/ instrumentation, management of mucogingival deformities, flap design for surgical access, and selection of bone graft/ barrier membrane materials utilized for regeneration. In addition, soft tissue and bone resective techniques utilized in functional crown lengthening, esthetic crown lengthening, and surgical pocket reduction will be described and discussed.
Following this presentation, dentists will:
1. Determine a realistic prognosis utilizing the 2018 Diagnosis/ Periodontal Classification system
2. Review techniques and assess medications utilized in non-surgical therapy
3. Achieve predictable management of mucogingival deformities (treatment of Gingival Recession)
4. Identify bone defect morphology amenable to successful periodontal regeneration
5. Utilizing a hands-on workshop, learn techniques for functional and esthetic crown lengthening.
