Day 1 (AM) will provide a look at cosmetic dental issues that are of particular concern to teenage and young adult patients. Treatment options and step by step treatment procedures will be discussed. Whitening and microabrasion, direct composite bonding, finessing of post – smiles & laser soft tissue sculpting will be presented. A step by step process through the emergency evaluation, preparation, record taking, provisionalization and cosmetic restoration of the fractured anterior tooth related to emergencies will also be presented. Day 1 (PM) will provide solutions for better restorations, better workflow and better well-being for dentists and teams using today’s technology, materials, techniques and equipment.
Day 2 will integrate didactic material and hands -on experience with anterior and posterior composites in addition to “no flow flowables.” Participants will be offered an opportunity to explore the technique of layering and blending composite shades to insure an aesthetic result using the latest state -of-the-art composite resins. Suggestions on the use and securing of a matrix, as well as finishing and polishing will also be discussed and demonstrated. Intra-occlusal splinting will be included using resin impregnated quartz fibers. Participants will have a first-hand opportunity to try these techniques on models.
Dr. Susan McMahon is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine and enjoys a thriving dental practice in Western Pennsylvania focusing on esthetics and oral health. She is accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a fellow in the International Academy of Dental -Facial Esthetics, and a fellow in the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. She is an ASDA member and a member of the Catapult Group Speakers Bureau. An author and lecturer, Dr. McMahon has devoted her professional career to the pursuit of advanced technologies in cosmetic dentistry and smile design. She is a past clinical instructor in Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine and a guest lecturer at the University of West Virginia, School of Dentistry.
Dr. Howard Glazer is a Fellow and Past President of the Academy of General Dentistry and former Assistant Clinical Professor in Dentistry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY). For the past several years, Dr. Glazer has been named as one of the “Leading Clinicians in Continuing Education” by Dentistry Today and most recently was named as one of the Top Dentists in New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly magazine. He lectures throughout the US and internationally on the subjects of cosmetic dentistry, forensic dentistry and patient management. Dr. Glazer is a frequent author of dental articles and has been published throughout the world. Currently he publishes a monthly column in AGD IMPACT entitled “What’s Hot and What’s Getting Hotter!” He maintains a general practice in Fort Lee, NJ.
At the completion of Day 1 of this course, the participant will:
1. Recognize minor cosmetic dental needs and desires of teens and young adults and understand elective conservative treatment options to offer
2. Identify communication techniques to initiate discussions about cosmetic procedures and acceptance with teens and young adults
3. Understand step by step directions for completing conservative cosmetic treatments
4. Understand techniques for good esthetic outcomes with directs and indirects on anteriors
5. Understand which new composite, cement, adhesive, glass ionomer, bioactive material etc. to choose
6. Utilize scanners, lasers, diagnostic cameras, handpieces, new restorative materials and new finishing techniques to improve everyday procedures.
At the completion of Day 2 of this course, the participant will:
1. Understand the structure of dentin and enamel as they relate to shade
2. Understand the layering concept in order to apply composites to anterior and posterior restorations
3. Understand how to finish and polish restorations
4. Understand how to splint mobile teeth
5. Utilize new materials and technology for composite dentistry.

Favorite composite instruments, magnifying eyewear, Hi and Low speed handpieces with latch attachment.

Eight hours of operative or esthetic dentistry for those who attend the 11/16/2018 lecture only; 16 hours of operative or esthetic dentistry participation credit for those who attend 11/16/2018 lecture and 11/17/2018 hands-on. (36 hours for those who complete an in-office protocol assignment and report). Return by 11/11/18 (Limited attendance for second day on 11/17/18).
