2017 MWU CDM-IL Welcome Breakfast

The Illinois AGD hosted a welcome breakfast for Midwestern University’s College of Dental Medicine-Illinois Class of 2021as part of their orientation week on Thursday, August 31. This breakfast served as a more in depth introduction to organized dentistry and specifically the Academy of General Dentistry. Many AGD members and student representatives welcomed the new class during the breakfast and described the crucial role that the AGD plays in the general dentistry profession. Dean Lex MacNeil, Dr. Larry Williams, Dr. Cheryl Mora, Dr. Theresa Lao, Dr. Ryan Vahdani, Dr. George Zehak, Dr. Joe Hagenbruch, Dr. Sy Wachtenheim, and Dr. Joe Wolski (MWU 2015 Alumni) each shared their stories on how the AGD has impacted their careers through continuing education and lifelong learning. MWU student representatives, Tyler DeAnda (D-4), Andrew Adiputra (D-3), Emily Koufus (D-3) and Tamzid Mafiz (D-3) discussed how AGD has impacted their education. Also highlighted were many of the student member benefits including the AGD award winning publications, AGD Impact and General Dentistry, and the ability to earn 50 hours of continuing education towards their fellowship when they graduate. They reminded the new students that though their careers do not officially begin for four more years, the wealth of information that they have to learn and to understand, in order to maintain professional excellence, is endless and evolving. The AGD is committed to helping students during their entire academic career as well as help to smooth their transition into their dental careers upon graduation. Also in attendance at the breakfast were AGD Membership Coordinator, Sara Murphy, and ILAGD members Ed Tobias, and MWU Faculty and ILAGD Members, Marsha Babka, Thomas Vahdani, Anne Marcotte, James Lin, Eric Johnson, Mary Kramer. Other MWU faculty that attended: Eric Johnson, Ron Magiera, Ken Kadziela, Peter Chang, Mario Ramos, Maria Carolina Cuevas, Stephen Palatinus, Constanza Fernandez-Gonzalez, James Mabbott, Barry Baker, Michael Meer, Kevin VanKanegan and Preetha Kanjirath.
