SIU Research Competition – June 9, 2016

The Central Component of the Illinois AGD hosted a student research poster competition at the Southern Illinois University College of Dental Medicine on June 9, 2016. The scientific research poster is a summary of the student’s research that highlights the context of their work through photographs, charts, graphs, methods, and results. Seven students presented a summary of their research to a panel of judges from the IL AGD and SIU faculty and each presentation was evaluated on the subject matter, the presentation and the table display.
The presenting students were Aaron Altman, Ian Day, Katie Hanser, Sara Idleman, Michael Stallings, Joshua Welborn, and Brandon Yeager. Dr. Sue Bishop, the IL AGD National Trustee moderated the program. The judges from the IL AGD were Dr. Kirk Hess, Dr. Cheryl Mora, and Dr. Sy Wachtenheim. Dr. Nathalia Garcia, Faculty SIU CDM was also a judge. Other SIU faculty members who attended are Dr. Anita Joy, Dr. Cyril Pandarakalam and Dr. Danny Welch. The students also had the opportunity to present their research posters to the attendees of the CIAGD program, “Cariology and Esthetic Restorations with Dr. Poonam Jaim on Friday. The CIAGD offered a first, second and third place scholarship for the top three winners, but the students voted to split the scholarship monies among all the presenters. Congratulations to all the students for their excellent research and presentations.
