Northern Illinois AGD Presented: Challenges and Advances in Endodontics by Dr. Brian J. Habas on Friday, October 7th in Rockford, Il. Dr. Habas discussed in detail the reviewing of diagnosis, anesthesia, access, irrigation, and obturation. Current thinking and methodology was also discussed in a manner that promotes a challenge to legacy concepts. As technology becomes more advanced, the endodontic specialty has changed dramatically with the introduction of the dental operating microscope, cone beam computed tomography, and enhanced irrigation systems. These advances have allowed for progress that will minimize the need for instrumentation and possibly change the way obturation is performed. The course also covered a shift in thinking from an endodontist’s perspective about how to evaluate teeth from a restorative diagnosis first, including marginal elevation techniques, post placement, and access design to maximize dentin conservation in vital areas.
