Ken Rawson, D.M.D.
“MANDATED REPORTER:CHILD ABUSE & NEGLECT”
OBJECTIVES: 1 hr CEU
▪ Recognize the signs of child abuse and neglect
▪ Know your role as a Mandated Reporter
▪ Know when and how to report child abuse and/or
neglect
▪ Understand which children are at a higher risk for abuse or neglect
BIOGRAPY: Kenneth Rawson, earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine and completed advanced training in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Dr. Rawson serves as the immediate past President of the Illinois State Dental Society and his professional passion is to increase access
to specialty care for the vulnerable pediatric dental population. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and fellow of the American College and International
College of Dentists. Dr. Rawson is a full-time faculty member at SIU School of Dental Medicine and serves as Director of Pediatric Dentistry. He also maintains a part-time private practice of
pediatric dentistry in southern Illinois.

 

Kimberly Kilgore, J.D.
“PREVENTING SEXUAL HARASSMENT: LET’S TALK ABOUT SEXUAL HARASSMENT”
OBJECTIVES: 1 hr CEU
▪ Recognize sexual harassment and how to prevent it
▪ Know your role if you experience or witness sexual harassment
▪ Become familiar with the law and compliant in reporting sexual harassment
▪ Increase knowledge to support the individual being harassed
▪ Explore opportunities to create an inclusive and supportive environment in the dental practice
PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY:

BIOGRAPHY: Kimberly Kilgore, JD, currently serves as an Investigator for the Office of Institutional Equity at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Previously, she served in the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access and Title IX at SIUE. While at SIUE, she handled sexual harassment and discrimination claims and investigations along with federal and state laws. Kimberly worked in compliance at SIUE for online programming, accreditation and professional licensure requirements, including dentistry. The majority of Kimberly’s career that spans over two decades, she has been as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in St. Louis County. Kimberly obtained her Bachelor’s in Economics at Missouri State in 1995, and her Juris Doctorate at Saint Louis University in 2000.

M.Nathalia Garcia,D.D.S M.S.
“UNDERSTANDING IMPLICIT BIAS IN THE DENTAL OFFICE”
OBJECTIVES: 1 hr CEU
▪ Increase participants’ knowledge of the concepts about multiple identities, social power, privilege/oppression.
▪ Increase participants’ knowledge of the concepts surrounding implicit bias and the difference between explicit and implicit biases.
▪ Increase participants’ understanding of the causes of implicit bias and how it forms and operates.
▪ Increase participants’ awareness of the effects of implicit bias and the harms it can cause; and how to recognize, interrupt, and mitigate implicit bias.

BIOGRAPHY: Nathalia Garcia is a Periodontist, Professor, Chair of the Applied Dental Medicine Department, Head of Periodontics, Research Director at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine and Adjunct Faculty at Saint Louis University. Dr. Garcia is fully immersed in both pre-doctoral and postdoctoral teaching and develops clinical and educational research. She has participated in different projects funded by the private industry and the National Institutes of Health (NIH); these research efforts have resulted in several publications. She has been honored as a member of OKU Dental Honor Society, a fellow of the International College of Dentists, and fellow of American Dental Association-ADEA Leadership Institute. Dr. Garcia was the 2017 ADEA Enid Neidle Scholar. She was selected as a SIUE Phenomenal Woman 2020 for her contributions to inclusion, equity, and diversity. Dr. Garcia is a Certified Diversity Facilitrainer (CDFT) by NCCJ Saint Louis.

Kerry Studnicki,PharmD
“SAFE OPIOID PRESCRIBINGFOR THE PRACTICING DENTIST”
OBJECTIVES: 3 hr CEU
• Discuss the causes and impact of the current opioid crisis
• Describe the pharmacology of opioids, including mechanism of action and common side effects
• Evaluate acute pain management principles including opioid and non-opioid options
• Promote safe opioid prescribing practices
• Identify symptoms of opioid use disorder, and assess opioid risk according to ADA guidelines
• Review the treatments for opioid overdose and opioid addiction
• Examine the use, impact, and information available in a Prescription Monitoring Program
• Demonstrate best practices in treating dental pain including: ADA statements, inter-professional
collaboration, and patient education.
BIOGRAPHY: Kerry Studnicki is Pharmacist-in-Charge at the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville campus. He received his doctorate of pharmacy from SIUE School of Pharmacy in 2012, and was part of a task force that created a training program for opioid prescribers in rural locations in Illinois.
