Children today are not the children of yesterday. Parents are in a dilemma about child rearing and arrive in our offices in states of anxiety with kids who are wreaking havoc upon their parents, teachers, doctors and all authority figures. Permissiveness has become the guideline for parents. “No! Stop! Please and Thank you!” are becoming extinct. Instead we have “self-esteem”, “quality time” and “ time-out”. Add to the mix the increasing number of children with special needs.  Sharing his not-to-be-believed, live-action videotapes, Dr. Berman will vividly illustrate a multitude of tricks and techniques for turning even the most recalcitrant child into a cooperative one, without mind-altering drugs or papoose boards.  A don’t miss learning experience!

Speaker Bio

Dr. Marvin Berman is a graduate of Northwestern University and University of Illinois Dental School and was awarded certification in Pediatric Dentistry at University of Illinois.  A former faculty member of both Northwestern University and University of Illinois Dental Schools, Dr. Berman is an internationally recognized pediatric dentist with a career as a successful practitioner in Chicago and world traveled lecturer on the broad spectrum of pediatric dentistry and “special needs” patients spanning over five decades.   Dr. Berman has been an ambassador for dentistry as a health reporter on CBS (News Radio 78) and via media appearances as a Consumer Advisor for the ADA, the Chicago Dental Society and the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He is co-author of “Essentials of Modern Dental Practice.” He has published numerous articles in the dental literature and has been acclaimed for his instructional videos. He’s a member of many professional and service organizations that include Honorary Membership in the Thomas B. Hinman Dental Society. Dr. Berman is an ITL Master Scholar.

Course Objectives:

• Gain the confidence to work with reluctant child patients without sedation or restraints
• Gain a better understanding of the dynamics of parent-child relationships and how they affect the establishment of child-dentist rapport
• Broaden clinical pediatric judgment including current methodology for caries prevention, diagnosis, operative dentistry and local anesthesia
• Integrate and expand the responsibilities of the dental team in order to better manage the treatment of young children

CE Credit:

7 hours of lecture credit may be used towards FAGD, MAGD or relicensure for dentists and hygienists.
