He maintains a part time private practice in Charlotte, North Carolina, publishes, and lectures internationally on aesthetic and restorative dentistry. He is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Rehabilitation at James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine – Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Dr. Lowe can be reached at 704-450-3321 or at [email protected].

Course Description:

In today’s world, the clinical practice of restorative dentistry is a very exciting and challenging endeavor. Consistent, predictable, clinical techniques to create quality dental restorations in a time efficient manner form the basis of every procedure that we perform for our patients. Every day we are faced with clinical situations that do not fit the “textbook” solutions. It is important that as clinicians that we offer different possible solutions to the patient explaining the potential risks and benefits of each, so that the treatment can be customized to fit their specific goals and expectations of the treatment outcomes can be properly managed.

Dr. Lowe will discuss creative ways do handle clinical situations “that don’t necessarily follow the textbook”, helping the practitioner out of situations that can waste time AND money, let alone avert a clinical failure!

Course Objectives:

Each Participant Will Learn:

  1. Treatment options for complex restorative and aesthetic cases. Do you have a “Plan B”? Can you think “outside the box” as to possible solutions, or are you only a “textbook” treatment planner?
  1. Prosthetic tooth repositioning for aesthetics and function limitations and long-term results when orthodontics and/or orthognathic surgery are not treatment options.
  1. Creative Treatment Planning and Execution…. It’s all in the details and it’s all about the options! A review of cases with problems and solutions that “don’t necessarily fit” classic treatment protocols.

“Brains-On” Exercises

The participation portion of this course will be case presentation and treatment planning group discussions for the participants’ clinical cases. To take full advantages of this course-please prepare a PowerPoint presentation containing the following information about a case you would like to discuss and treatment plan with Dr. Lowe and the class:

  • Pre-operative AACD photographic review of the case including full arch retracted views center, left, and right in centric occlusion and with teeth separated. Full smile views (without retraction) center, left, and right. Maxillary and mandibular full arch occlusal/incisal views. Please look at this link for a guide of what photos to include: Link Guide
  • Full Mouth Pre-Operative Periapical X-rays and Vertical Bitewings.
  • Pictures of Mounted Study Models in centric occlusion: center, left and right (physical stone models are ok as well).
  • Dental, medical, and social histories including patient chief complaint; pre-operative diagnosis and problem list
  • Dental Chart of existing restorations, caries, etc and perio chart with probing depths.

Please email your presentations to Dr. Cheryl Mora at [email protected] before September 1, 2021. Dr. Lowe will be looking at your cases ahead of time to facilitate our discussions.
If your file is too large to email, you may use dropbox or mail the presentation to me on a USB key. Presentations not received by September 1, please bring your presentation on a flash drive in PowerPoint form.
