Speaker: Dr. John Olsen

Solo practitioner in General and Advanced Surgical Dentistry in Franklin, Wisconsin since 1992.
1980 – 1992: Full time Faculty at Marquette School of Dentistry in research and instruction of Anatomical Sciences.
1992; Graduated from Marquette School of Dentistry as a DDS.
1995-2006: Adjunct Faculty at Milwaukee Area Technical College, Clinic Supervisor; Course Director for Oral Pathology; Course Director for Pharmacology.
As a member of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) I have achieved my Fellow the AGD in 1997, my Master in the AGD in 2000, and my Life Long Learning Award in 2016. In 2022 elected co-chair pf the Illinois/Wisconsin Master Trak,
Spurred on by my quest to educate the dental profession on recognizing and referring signs of oral cancer, pharmacology, and implant dentistry, I began lecturing on these subjects since dental school. I have lectured at many meetings throughout the world about Diagnosing Oral Cancer, Oral Medicine and Dental Implant Sciences. I have also contributed as an author for publications in Implant Dentistry.
A recognized graduate from the Misch Implant Institute and now on the faculty teaching more than 120 students per year in Implant Dentistry.
A recognized member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) of which he is a Diplomat of this organization. As a member of the ICOI I was the previous chief author and chair of the Diplomat Exam in Implantology.
A contributor as an author for the Dental Assistant National Board Exam (DANB) for 6 years and the Fellowship Exam in the AGD for 10 years.

Dr. George R. Zehak is a distinguished figure in the field of dentistry, renowned for his exceptional contributions to professional organizations and commitment to dental education. As a Fellow and past Delegate to the Academy of General Dentistry, Dr. Zehak has demonstrated a dedication to advancing the standards of dental practice.
Having served as the President of both the Chicago Dental Society and the Illinois Academy of General Dentistry, Dr. Zehak has exhibited outstanding leadership skills and a passion for promoting excellence in dental care. Currently, he holds the position of Adjunct Faculty member at Midwestern University School in Downers Grove, IL, contributing to the education and training of future dental professionals.
Dr. Zehak’s active involvement with the Illinois State Dental Society since 2001 showcases his commitment to the dental community. He serves as an attending Dentist at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, further emphasizing his dedication to providing quality oral healthcare.
With a rich history of involvement in dental assessment and competency, Dr. Zehak has been an examiner for the North East Regional Board and a consultant for the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments. His role as a Delegate to the American Dental Association House of Delegates, Trustee, and Delegate of the Illinois State Dental Society underscores his influence at a national level.
Dr. Zehak’s contributions have not gone unnoticed, as he received the prestigious Marshall A. Smulson Humanitarian Award in 2013 and the Chicago Dental Society Foundation Vision Award in 2021, highlighting his significant impact on both the dental profession and the community he serves.

Soft Tissue Lesions
Objectives:
After attending this course, the student should:
A. Be able to reach a fairly good diagnosis of any lesions of the lips by the diagnostic features indicated during the course.
B. Be able to discern what types of lesions that are ulcerative, vesicular and or fibrous lesions of the unattached mucosa of the oral cavity.
C. Be able to differentiate any lesions of the attached mucosal areas of the oral cavity.
D. Recognize signs of skin lesions especially malignant lesions of the head and neck
E. Decide when to refer out to advanced dental practitioners for further analysis of any and all soft tissue lesions of the oral cavity along with your findings.
F. How to reach any and all conclusions on what soft tissue lesions might be upon descriptive feature of that lesion.
G. Know what to say to that patient in respect to your diagnostic findings.

Hard Tissue Lesions
Objectives:
A. Be able to diagnose a hard tissue lesion and its relationship to the teeth.
B. Be able to diagnose a hard tissue lesion that could be developmental in origin.
C. Be able to discern the difference between a radiolucent lesion from a radiopaque lesion.
D. Decide when to refer out to advanced dental practitioners for further analysis of any and all hard tissue lesions of the oral cavity along with your findings.
E. How to reach any and all conclusions on what hard tissue lesions might be upon descriptive feature of that lesion.
F. Know what to say to that patient in respect to your diagnostic findings.
Hands on will incorporate biopsy on pigs, t-blue use, Velscope use, construction of soft trays for immune based path, trephine of bone, and use of neuromodulators for TMD path.
Bring scissors, scalpels, hemostats, periosteal elevators, and suture set up.

Who Should Attend?

These hands-on programs were created for AGD Fellows aspiring to be AGD Masters, but we’ve discovered that they may benefit all dentists, from new graduates to seasoned practitioners.

CE Credit:

16 hours of participation credit for those who attend the 2 days of lecture and hands-on. 34 total hours of participation credit to those who attend the 2 days of lecture and hands-on, complete the assigned protocol in their office, and return to document the protocol assignment.

The total tuition for Premasters for this course,, which includes the reporting session is $1075. MAGD’s receive a $100.00 discount and pay $975. Non-AGD member is $1175. Tuition includes continental breakfast and lunch Friday & Saturday, and a banquet on Friday evening at 5:30PM. Please indicate on your registration whether you will be attending the banquet. The Illinois Academy of General Dentistry and the Wisconsin Academy of General Dentistry are pleased to present this program leading to Mastership certification in the Academy. To complete the Mastership Program, candidates must enroll for 600 hours of continuing education, 400 of which must be of participatory nature.

This course is in honor of Dr. Sy Wachtenheim. He was a dentist in private practice for over 40 years. Dr. Wachtenheim had been an Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) member since 1975. He had received his Fellowship Award in 1983 and Mastership Award in 1992. He was awarded the Lifetime Learning and Service Award in 2006 and Distinguished Service Award in 2010. Wachtenheim has been extremely involved with the Illinois AGD since 1994. He has received many honors during his years in organized dentistry, but his greatest honor is working with such distinguished colleagues, who have become his friends.
