Dr. Schwartz is a 1980 graduate of Baylor University College of Dentistry. He completed a general practice residency in dentistry in 1981. In 1991 he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from St. Louis University. He then obtained a Certificate in Nurse Anesthesia from Washington University School of Nurse Anesthesia. He has practiced as a CRNA since 1994 and practices dentistry with an interest in anesthesia in dental practices, delivering care to patients as a licensed dentist with a certificate in deep sedation/general anesthesia.
Students will have the opportunity to learn to apply anesthesia and sedation concepts of patient care and skills toward their patients in their general dental practice. We will discuss those skills as they relate to the patient care by general dentists. Dentists will learn about considerations for the “16 Toughest Patients to Treat,” discuss the most common dental emergencies in general practice and review the emergency medications typically found in dental office emergency kits. The dentists will then develop, through individual hands-on sessions, both intravenous insertion skills and airway management skills.
These hands-on programs were designed originally for AGD Fellows striving to be AGD Masters. We have discovered that these programs can be valuable to all dentists from new graduates to the most experienced clinicians.
16 hours of participation credit for those who attend the 2 days of lecture and hands-on. 34 total hours of participation credit to those who attend the 2 days of lecture and hands-on, complete the assigned protocol in their office, and return to document the protocol assignment.
