 Brett E. Gilbert, DDS, FICD, Diplomate, American Board of Endodontics

Dr. Brett E. Gilbert graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School (DDS 2001, ENDO 2003). He is a professor in the Department of Endodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. He is the founder of the Access Endo, a global direct mentorship continuing education platform. He is a fellow in the International College of Dentists and a contributing consultant for Oral Health Journal. Dr. Gilbert lectures nationally and internationally on clinical endodontics and personal wellness and is the host of the On The Cusp Podcast and co-host of For the Love of Endo podcast. Dr. Gilbert is a global key opinion leader in the area of endodontics and new technology. He is a partner in Specialized Dental Partners and has a private practice, Northwest Dental Specialists in Park Ridge, IL.

Course Description:

Managing complicated endodontic cases can present a great challenge to any clinician. Calcified canals are difficult
to manage, but, with proper technique, can be cleaned and shaped with predictability. Retreatment creates
challenges for any clinician, but with sound technique and understanding, successful outcomes are possible in
general practice. Separation of instruments happens, creating a stressful and potentially damaging outcome.
Utilizing modern techniques and armamentaria can help to successfully retrieve a separated instrument. Locating
the second mesiobuccal canal (MB2) is challenging, but, after learning more about anatomy and using the right
instruments, is achievable. Participants will learn perforation prevention and repair techniques. This combination
of lecture and hands-on workshop will allow each participant to learn and gain proficiency in advanced endodontic
techniques and skills.

Course Objectives:

Following this presentation, dentists will:

• Learn how to identify and negotiate calcified canal structures using modern armamentaria.
• Practice removal of gutta percha and root fillings to mimic the challenges encountered during endodontic
  retreatment.
• Learn about MB2 anatomy and anatomical cues of location, and practice locating and effectively instrumenting
  these structures using 3D-printed tooth anatomy
• Understand how to prevent perforation of tooth structure, and learn techniques and materials to successfully
  repair these iatrogenic errors.

Who Should Attend?

These hands-on programs were created for AGD Fellows aspiring to be AGD Masters, but we’ve discovered that they may benefit all dentists, from new graduates to seasoned practitioners.

CE Credit:

16 hours of participation credit for those who attend the 2 days of lecture and hands-on. 34 total hours of participation credit to those who attend the 2 days of lecture and hands-on, complete the assigned protocol in their office, and return to document the protocol assignment.

The total tuition for Premasters for this course, which includes the reporting session is $1075. MAGD’s receive a $100.00 discount and pay $975. Non-AGD member is $1175. The Illinois Academy of General Dentistry and the Wisconsin Academy of General Dentistry are pleased to present this program leading to Mastership certification in the Academy. To complete the Mastership Program, candidates must enroll for 600 hours of continuing education, 400 of which must be of participatory nature.
