Presents:
Day One – This lecture will review the most common categories of soft tissue lesions that are regularly encountered in the head and neck region. It will also review basic categories of soft tissue lesions and emphasize the importance of developing a reasonable differential diagnosis. The lecture will review the etiologic factors associated with both oral and oropharyngeal cancer.
Day 2 – will be a hands on endodontic laboratory exercise on endodontic diagnosis, treatment, instrumentation and obturation.
Dr. Mark W. Lingen
Professor of Pathology and Medicine at the University of Chicago Medicine. He is a graduate of Northwestern University Dental School. He also completed his residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology as well as a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Pathology at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Lingen is the Editor-in-Chief for the journal Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology Oral Radiology (Triple O). He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, the American and International Colleges of Dentist, and the Royal College of Pathologists. Dr. Lingen is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology. His NIH-funded research, which focuses on several aspects of oral cancer and has resulted in more than 200 manuscripts and book chapters.
Dr. Marvin L. Speer
Currently, Dr. Speer serves as Program Director for Advanced Endodontics at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Alton, Il. He has held that position since 2018. There he began a CODA approved Specialty Certificate program in Endodontics. He has graduated four classes. Dr. Speer previously served as the Program Director for Endodontics at West Virgina University (2015-2018) and prior to that served as Director of the Division of Endodontology in the Department of Surgical Sciences at ECU School of Medicine (2012-2015). He earned his DDS from Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago. He also earned his MS in Oral Biology with an emphasis on Immunology. His certificate of Specialty in Endodontics was obtained at Loyola under the mentorship of Dr. Frank Weine. Dr. Speer is the former Chairman of the Department of Endodontics and the Director of Graduate Endodontics at Washington University in St. Louis (1989-1992) In addition, Dr. Speer has been in private practice for more than 37 years.

Day One:
1. Distinguish between benign/active and neoplastic conditions.
2. Appreciate the critical role of dental health care professionals in screening for oral premalignancy and oral/oropharyngeal cancer.
3. Understand the importance of preforming a through visual and tactile exam on all patients.
4. Implement the ADA Clinical Guidelines algorithm for oral cancer screening.
Day Two:
5. Learn Critical Endodontic diagnosis & treatment of the maxillary and mandibular dentition.
6. Learn & participate in a hands-on demonstration of the challenges and solutions for diagnosis, treatment, instrumentation & obturation of endodontically involved teeth.
7. Review cone beam Radiology used for endodontic diagnosis & treatment.
Supplies: For the hands-on session please bring magnification eyewear; Highspeed handpiece to connect with 4-hole adaptor hose; Low speed with latch attachment.

8 hours of oral pathology dentistry lecture credit for those who attend the 3/20/26 lecture only; 16 hours of Oral Pathology/Endodontic Dentistry participation credit for those who attend 3/20/26 lecture and 3/21/26 hands-on. (36 hours for those who complete an in-
office protocol assignment and report).
