Course:

Day 1 of this will cover topics of interest to Dental Students, Post-Doctoral Residents and Practicing Dentists alike. Pulpal diagnostic testing, its advantages and limitations, and its connection with cracked teeth, is relevant to all aspects of Dentistry. The effective use of electronic apex locators and consideration of file separation should be of interest to anyone performing root canal treatment. Day 2 of the course will provide an update of endodontic systems, techniques and materials. The course will include a hands-on experience with different endodontic systems utilizing extracted teeth.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Stephen Weeks is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Endodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry.  Weeks received his BA in Chemistry from Rockford College in 1973 and he graduated from the Evanston Hospital School of Medical Technology in 1978. He attended UIC College of Dentistry, receiving his DDS with Honors in 1989. He returned to Evanston Hospital as a Resident in General Practice Dentistry, completing that program in 1990. He returned to UIC where he received his Certificate in Endodontics in 1994. Dr. Weeks provides lectures to pre- and post-doctorate students and provides patient care in the Faculty Dental Practice.

 

 

Dr. George Zehak received his dental degree from the University of Illinois. Currently he practices in Berwyn, Illinois and is on staff at Mercy Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Zehak has presented many lectures to dental audiences. Besides having a Mastership and Life Long Learning Award in the Academy of General Dentistry, he has received Fellowships from the International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy, American College of Osseous Integration, the Odontographic Society of Chicago and is Past President of the Illinois Academy of General Dentistry and the Chicago Dental Society.

Course Objectives:

At the completion of this seminar, participants will:

Understand how to perform pulpal diagnostic tests with acceptable reliability
Be able to describe at least two methods of removing separated instruments from a canal
Understand how to use an electronic apex locator with increased confidence.
Understand root canal anatomy, access, shaping and cleansing in a thorough, quick and efficient manner that leads to successful root canal treatment.
Understand the proper technique to properly fill curved canals.
Become familiar .with endodontic systems in the market place and develop a better understanding of what works well in your hands.

Supplies: For the hands-on session on 6/10/23 please bring magnification eyewear and 3-5 extracted teeth. Please embed the roots in plaster and cut an endo access opening . Radiograph each tooth to establish working length of the canals. Bring high speed. and low speed handpieces with latch attachments.

CE Credits:

(towards AGD Fellowship or Mastership)
8 hours of Endodontics lecture credit for those who attend the 6/9/23 lecture only; 16 hours of Endodontics participation credit for those who attend 6/9/23 lecture and 6/10/23 hands-on. (36 hours for those who complete an in-office protocol assignment and report).
