On Friday, May 13, at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Oak Brook, the Chicago Component of the Academy of General Dentistry hosted a day-long course on “Ideal Restorative Materials & Techniques for Long-term Success.” Dr. Rolando Nunez, DDS, MSc, kicked off the day of adhesive dentistry. He gave an animated overview of commonly used adhesives and focused on the rational for adhesive protocols.
Dr. Byong Suh, MS, PhD, the founder of Bisco, then picked things up with a lecture focused on the development and chemistry of universal adhesives. The audience learned a great deal of how dental adhesive systems were developed and why they are formulated the way they are.
Dr. Liang Chen, PhD, carried on the bonding theme with a lecture on current technologies for bonding and cementing ceramic restorations. He covered bonding protocols for zirconia and lithium disilicate restorations and the chemistry behind those protocols.
Dr. Nunez then came back to wrap things up with a talk on indirect anterior restorations. He presented a veneer case and summarized much of what was covered earlier. Overall, it was an enlightening day of adhesive dentistry education.
We had a few lucky raffle winners. Dr. Michael Mora won a $50 gift card from PNC. Dr. Alexander Rudnitski took home an All Bond Universal bonding kit from Bisco. Dr. Sy Watchenheim won a box of bite registration material from Kettenbach and Dr. Spencer Bloom won AGD scrubs. Sixty seven dentists were in attendance for this course.
The Chicago AGD is thankful for our sponsors who generously supported our lecture. PNC Bank, represented by Jose Prada and Patricia Dewey, provided gold level support. HiOssen, represented by Branden Kergan, Jane Jun and Sevi Sulemani, provided silver level support. Bisco was represented by Norma Gilich and Kettenbach by Tim St. Clair.
