Course Information:

Guided surgery is used to provide a more accurate and easier surgery based on a digital prosthetic design. Guides and the ways they are used have evolved over the years, and allow for various solutions other than just implant placement. This lecture will discuss using guides in the anterior aesthetic zone, posterior regions with multiple missing teeth and lack of available bone. Guides are critical when deciding what treatment plan is best for the fully edentulous patient. Whether a fixed or removable solution, there are several steps and considerations to be taken when deciding where to place the implants. Whether the doctor is placing and restoring the case or working with a specialist, it is of the utmost importance that the prosthetics determine how the case is arranged and organized. While the digital workflow is paramount for success, so is the team workflow, and both will be addressed.

Course Objectives:

At the completion of this course, the participants should be able to:
• Be able to discern the different types of guides and when they are used
• Understand when osseous and tissue grafting is required when designing a guide
• Learn correct implant placement for screw-retained versus cement-retained
• Know when to use an All-on-X approach or abutment and bridge design in the fully edentulous patient.
• Incorporate team workflows that increase productivity and reduce mistakes

CE Credit:

7 hours of lecture credit may be used towards FAGD, MAGD or re-licensure for dentists and hygienists.
