Course Information:

This seminar will discuss the rapidly growing area of Dental Sleep Medicine and the dentist’s role in treating sleep apnea. The ADA has now recommended that part of a dentist’s role is to screen all patients for sleep apnea. Dr. Poss will discuss the most effective way for the dentist and his/her team to screen and treat patients for obstructive sleep apnea. A step-by-step treatment protocol will be outlined, beginning with the initial exam to the delivery of the oral appliance. This will include understanding the important data on a sleep study, a discussion on digital impressions and an appropriate technique for capturing the correct bite for your oral device. After attending this session, the clinician and staff will be able to begin implementing dental sleep medicine into their office on Monday morning.

Course Objectives:

  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea
  •  Develop a plan to implement and grow dental sleep medicine in your practice
  • Comprehend the important data that a dentist needs to garner from a sleep study.
  • Recognize the various mandibular devices and how they perform
  • Contraindications for oral appliance therapy
  • The importance of digital impressions and CBCT in the dental sleep practice.
